About This Call
All artists who would like to get their existing outdoor sculpture out of the closet and into the public should submit up to three sculptures for consideration. Exhibiting artists will be paid a $500 stipend for the transportation and installation of their artwork. If special installation requirements are required, the stipend may be increased. A public vote will be taken and the winner of the People's Choice will receive a $200 cash award.
The ideal installation timeline is late May 2009 with a 6–12 month exhibit. Sculptures selected will be advertised for sale, unless the sculpture is not available for purchase. If work is purchased from the exhibit by a visitor, a 5% donation on the sale of the artwork is appreciated. All sales queries are forwarded to the exhibitor. All sculptures must be attached to a steel plate that will be bolted to a concrete base or sidewalk, unless other design considerations are more appropriate. All selected artists must submit a plan (drawing) for the installation of their artwork, to include any engineering and other significant factors affecting an extended exhibit.
"Sculpture on the FAX" is part of the ongoing collaboration between the City of Aurora Art in Public Places Program and the Urban Renewal Division to utilize public art as a tool to visually revitalize Aurora's Original Downtown. The exhibit is located in the heart of Original Downtown Aurora, amid historic buildings and multicultural businesses, in the East End Arts District. Located 5 minutes from the Fitzsimons Medical Campus, Stapleton and Lowry, and 15 minutes from Downtown Denver.
