About This Call
Sculpture on the Blue is an outdoor sculpture exhibition hosted by the Breckenridge Public Art Commission (BPAC). The exhibition is located within the Blue River Plaza, along a portion of the Riverwalk north and south of the Blue River Plaza and around the Riverwalk Center. The purpose is to provide a vibrant sculptural garden for visitors and the community to enjoy throughout the summer. Up to 10 artists will be selected.
Subject matter and materials for sculptures are intended to be broad and open to each artist's interpretation. All sculptures accepted should be durable in regard to withstanding the elements and for public interaction. Sculptures will be on display from May 30th through October 10th, 2014. A travel stipend will be provided: $300 for artists traveling in Summit or adjacent counties and $500 for artists traveling outside Summit and adjacent counties. Artists traveling from outside Summit County will be provided with a room in Breckenridge the night of the opening reception. The Town will provide assistance with installation and take down of sculptures within the show.
A brochure is created each year to promote Sculpture on the Blue and participating artists. The BPAC provides uniform signage for each sculpture in the show with sculptor contact information. Sculptures need not be for sale, and there is no commission taken on sold sculptures. If a sculpture is sold, it may be replaced with another sculpture by the artist, subject to approval by the BPAC. The BPAC will award one sculpture "Best of Show" and the community will select their favorite sculpture with a "Peoples' Choice" award. Both awards include cash prizes. Work sample requirements: submit 1-6 images.
