About This Call
The City of Coral Springs invites professional visual artists to submit pre-existing sculptures for temporary and permanent display along Sample Road and the NW 31st Court ArtWalk. Up to eleven sculptures will be temporarily displayed along the 1-mile roadway on Sample Road and the 1,600 linear-foot ArtWalk. A flyer, social media, press releases, and local press coverage will feature the selected artworks and artists. The city holds festivals throughout the year on the ArtWalk where the sculptures will be featured.
Artwork must be capable of withstanding South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun, humidity, and seasonal heavy rain. Sculptures should be durable, require minimal maintenance, and resist rust, fading, and high-speed winds. Artwork must fit on a 4-foot by 5-foot pad and be self-supporting on open landscape or hardscape. Vertical sculptures are preferred. If selected for permanent display, final approval is contingent upon inspection for wind load and compliance with the Florida Building Code.
The 2017 theme promotes the City's mission statement: "The nation's premier community in which to live, work and raise a family" and branding "Everything Under the Sun." Each artist selected for temporary display receives $2,000 ($1,000 upon placement, $1,000 upon removal). The Public Art Committee will select a minimum of one artwork for permanent purchase with a budget of $38,000. Selected artists must provide transportation and installation of artwork, supply power if required, make recommendations for permanent site design, and present one public lecture in Coral Springs. The project is open to professional visual artists with experience implementing work in the public realm. Artists who are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members, selection committee members, or program staff are not eligible.
