Sculpture on Sample/ArtWalk 2020

The City of Coral Springs Public Art Program will temporarily display up to nine sculptures on Sample Road (between University Drive and Coral Springs Drive) and the NW 31st Court ArtWalk. The city will then select one or more sculptures from the temporary display for permanent purchase and continued expansion of its public art collection. The program is open to professional visual artists with experience implementing their work in the public realm.

Artwork must be pre-existing and capable of withstanding South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun, humidity, and seasonal heavy rain. Sculptures should be durable with minimal maintenance requirements, resistant to high-speed winds, and able to fit on a 4-foot by 5-foot pad. Vertical sculptures are preferred. The artwork should align with the City's mission statement and branding: "The nation's premier community in which to live, work and raise a family" and "Everything Under the Sun."

Selected artists will receive $2,000 for temporary display ($1,000 upon installation and $1,000 upon removal). The purchase budget for permanent artwork is up to $49,000. Selected artists are responsible for transportation and installation of their work, must supply power if required, provide recommendations for the permanent site design, and present one public lecture in Coral Springs. Artist selection will occur January 27, 2020, with artwork installation February through March 2020 and program launch in March 2020. Permanent artwork selection is scheduled for May 2020.
