About This Call
The City of Coral Springs Public Art Program invites professional visual artists to submit pre-existing sculptures for temporary display and potential permanent purchase. Up to nine artworks will be temporarily displayed along Sample Road (between University Drive and Coral Springs Drive) and the NW 31st Court ArtWalk. From these temporary displays, the Public Art Committee, with input from city residents, will select one or more pieces for permanent acquisition. The total purchase budget for permanent artwork is up to $49,000.
Artwork must be capable of withstanding South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun, humidity, and seasonal heavy rain. Sculptures should be durable with minimal maintenance requirements, resistant to rust, fading, and high-speed winds. Artwork must fit on a 4-foot by 5-foot pad and be self-supporting on open landscape or hardscape. Vertical sculptures are preferred. If selected for permanent display, final approval is contingent upon inspection for wind load and compliance with Florida Building Code.
Artists selected for temporary display will receive $2,000 ($1,000 upon installation and $1,000 upon removal). Selected artists must provide transportation and installation of artwork, supply power if required, make recommendations for permanent site design, and present one public lecture in Coral Springs. The project is open to any professional visual artist with experience implementing work in the public realm. Artists who are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members, selection committee members, or program staff are not eligible. Application deadline: December 31, 2021.
