Sculpture in Franklin County NC

The Arts Council of Franklin County (ACFC), in partnership with Franklin County Parks and Recreation, is seeking 5 sculptures to place in public parks for a period of 1 year with the option to renew for a following year. Sculptures will be displayed at Pilot Lions Park and the V.E. and Lydia H. Owens Recreational Park at Bull Creek, with the possibility of several other sites yet to be selected.

ACFC is encouraging artists to submit abstract and nonrepresentational pieces. Artwork must be a minimum of 48" tall or larger, a three-dimensional stand-alone piece, and must be designed and fabricated for long-term outdoor durability and ease of maintenance. Pieces with a diameter less than 48" are preferred. The artist is responsible for transporting the artwork to and from its location and for any associated transport costs. A member of ACFC is available to assist with labor and placement if requested.

Selected artists will receive a stipend of $750.00 per sculpture for the first year. A second, negotiable stipend will be paid at the start of the second year if the piece is retained. Temporary plaques with the art piece name, artist contact information, and purchase information will be placed at each installation. Artists may choose to offer their pieces for sale, and ACFC will forego any commission on sales. Submissions should include three to five digital images taken from front, back, and side viewpoints, plus a short written statement explaining the piece's inspiration. The project is open to all artists residing in North Carolina. Artist teams are eligible to apply. Selection panelists and their immediate family members are not eligible.
