About This Call
The Town of Windsor Arts Commission is seeking an artist to design, fabricate, and install a three-dimensional artwork at the Historic Halfway Homestead, Windsor's newest historical site and park. The site is currently under development with the goal of opening in the summer of 2024. The WAC seeks an artist to contribute a three-dimensional work that complements the theme of agricultural heritage while adding visual interest to the site.
The Historic Halfway Homestead is a two-acre site containing Windsor's oldest standing building and another historical farmhouse, both being restored. The surrounding area will become an educational site and park focused on Windsor's agricultural heritage, featuring educational, sensory, and community gardens; a small stage with an event lawn; a nature play area; water and irrigation interactive educational features; an outdoor teaching kitchen; and multiple gathering spaces. The site is located on a main route into town on the border between commercial and residential areas, adjacent to the Greeley #2 Ditch Trail, a major multi-use trail connecting to Windsor's Downtown and other cultural sites.
The artwork should be engaging, interactive or kinetic, reflect the historical nature of the site in a creative way, be appropriate in scale, have an educational component, and be whimsical. Initial applications should include an artist statement or letter of intent, current resume or CV with portfolio links, and 3-10 images of relevant works demonstrating style, medium, scale, and appropriateness for the project. A narrative statement should outline the proposed project type for the site. Three to five finalists will be selected to submit a full proposal including scale models, drawings, or renderings, itemized budget, maintenance plan, and timeline. Finalists will receive a $200 stipend. Eligibility is open to any artist living and working in Colorado, with preference given to Northern Colorado artists and those with prior public art experience and municipal work. Artists must demonstrate ability to complete the project in the required timeframe and have knowledge of material maintenance.
