About This Call
The City of Orlando invites artists to submit qualifications for a public art installation at the Orlando Tennis Centre. The commissioned artwork will celebrate Orlando's tennis culture and community, reflecting both the sport's energy and the vibrancy of the surrounding neighborhood. The artwork should serve as a visual landmark for the new Tennis Centre, enhancing the sense of place while complementing the facility's architecture and purpose.
The project calls for 1–2 tennis-related sculptures to be installed at designated locations within the Orlando Tennis Centre property at 2055 West New Hampshire Street, Orlando, FL, with an installation date of Summer 2026. The art feature budget is $78,000.00-$81,000.00, which includes all costs related to artwork development, materials, fabrication, artist fees, transportation of the artwork, and installation. A stipend may be provided to shortlisted finalists. Finalists may be asked to submit additional proposals or attend meetings with City of Orlando representatives as part of the selection process.
This opportunity is open to local and national professional artists with experience designing and installing public sculptures. Only artists with a documented history of completing large-scale public art projects on budget and on schedule will be considered. The artwork must be appropriate for the tennis environment and the broader Orlando community, made of durable, low-maintenance materials suitable for Orlando's subtropical climate (including high humidity, sun exposure, heavy rainfall, and hurricane-force winds), meet all applicable building codes, and be safe for public interaction in a pedestrian-friendly environment. Application requirements include a current résumé or CV, one-paragraph biography, artist statement addressing your vision for the proposed artwork, projected budget and payment schedule, maximum of six images of past outdoor artworks (to scale), detailed description of proposed artwork including materials, dimensions, weight, installation requirements and estimated value, proposed project schedule, and required maintenance narrative. Finalists will be evaluated on artistic merit, professional qualifications, and demonstrated experience. For additional site-specific information, contact Flynn Dobbs at [email protected]. Walk-up site visits are not permitted; appointments must be scheduled in advance.
