About This Call

Sculpture at the River Market announces a public art commission for a sculpture to be installed at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Arkansas. The sculpture should symbolically represent a sapling from Anne Frank's chestnut tree and convey Anne's hope or protest, or both, as described in the call materials. The site is located between the entrance to the Clinton Presidential Center and the Clinton School of Public Service, approximately 23' by 21', and will be completely redesigned based on the selected sculpture. Five glass engraved panels (4 feet wide and 10 feet tall) will be retained and incorporated into the reconfigured site.

The project budget is up to $120,000.00 and must include all costs related to design, engineering, materials, fabrication, travel expenses, required insurance, shipping, and installation of the artwork, excluding crane costs if needed. The sculpture must be three-dimensional, durable, easily maintained, and free standing. The winning artist will be required to submit a stamped structural engineer's drawing before the second installment payment. Payment will be made in three installments: 50% upon contract signing, 25% when the piece goes to fabrication (after engineer approval), and 25% upon installation by April 1, 2024.

After the February 17, 2023 deadline, three semifinalists will be selected and notified by March 14, 2023. Finalists must accept by March 19, 2023 and travel to Little Rock on April 14, 2023 to present proposals at "A Night in the Garden" party. A travel stipend up to $500 will be awarded to each semifinalist. The winner will be announced at the end of the event. Installation is scheduled for April 2024. Eligibility is open to all fine art sculptors who are residents of and/or working in the United States. Work must be produced by the sculptor or under their personal supervision. Submit up to 6 images: 1-3 of the proposed sculpture and 1-3 of recent works. For questions, contact Dena Daniel at [email protected] or 931-220-0912.
