Sculpture as Metaphor

Sculpture as Metaphor is a juried exhibition for SF Bay Area artists (within 100 miles from San Rafael, California). The exhibition considers all sculptural techniques and compositions that play with the idea of metaphor, with industrial and innovative materials encouraged.

Eligibility and Requirements: SF Bay Area artists only. Submissions must express or allude to the theme. Sculptural media only; size limit is six feet in any dimension. Original artwork only. Submit up to 3 works per $40 entry fee (two different images of each piece may be submitted). Submissions via CaFE.org only; hardcopy, email, and disk submissions will not be accepted. AWD Artist Members receive a $20 discount on the entry fee.

Timeline and Details: Entry deadline is September 5, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notification by email or phone will be sent September 12-13. Accepted work must be hand-delivered to Art Works Downtown classroom, 1337 Fourth St., San Rafael, on September 27 between 10am-4pm. Work must be prepared to install, with wall-hung pieces securely wired. Artist statement and resume required. Reception dates: October 10, 5-8pm and November 11, 5-8pm. Unsold artwork pickup: November 15, 10am-4pm. Upon sale, AWD accepts a 40% donation of the artwork's value (tax deductible). Coverage for exhibited work is based on insured value entered on the entry form; artists may provide additional insurance. Artists who do not retrieve work by November 15 will be charged $1.00 per day storage fee; works remaining after 30 days become property of Art Works Downtown.
