About This Call
The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority seeks one or more artist(s) to provide sculptural art pieces for South Terminal C at Orlando International Airport under a lease or lease-to-purchase agreement. The selection process will involve a Request for Proposals (RFP) to select up to two artists. The budget for the sculptural art pieces is $300,000.00, inclusive of installation costs.
The sculptural art pieces will be located in prominent spaces of the South Terminal Complex, which is a new $2.7 billion terminal program under construction. The pieces should provide a "wow" or sense of place wayfinding landmark for the traveling public and reflect the transformative nature or environment of Central Florida. Submissions will be evaluated on professional experience, quality of work, aesthetic and physical quality, compatibility with the architectural design and "The Orlando Experience®" airport context, value of the piece, and proposed lease payments.
Eligibility is open to all artists with preference given to local professional artists. Artists must have a national or international reputation and positive critical regard. Submissions must include a professional resume with at least three references, a one-page statement of suitability explaining how the art responds to the selection criteria and describing the piece with size, weight, and materials, a minimum of two and maximum of six digital images of the piece(s), and proof of residency or studio location for local artists. Artists must also sign and submit a Waiver of Claims form and a Certification Regarding Scrutinized Companies That Boycott Israel. The sculptural art pieces must be complete and ready for installation in early 2022. Size and weight limits vary by location: Location 1 has a maximum base of 5' x 5', maximum height of 13' including base, and maximum weight of 1250 pounds; Location 2 has a maximum base of 5' x 5', maximum height of 16' including base, and maximum weight of 1250 pounds.
