About This Call
Scottsdale Public Art is accepting qualifications from artists for two public art opportunities at SkySong, the Arizona State University Scottsdale Innovation Center. The selected artists will design and install public artworks on the SkySong campus, each intended as a monument or entry feature, or to be sited at multiple locations, visible from the major cross streets bordering the campus. The artworks must reflect and embrace the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit and use of cutting-edge technology that SkySong represents. The target date for installation is Fall/Winter 2016.
Artists working in the fields of kinetic sculpture, light, and new media work are encouraged to apply. Applicants must have demonstrated experience in successfully realizing permanent public art installations. Shortlisted artists will be invited for an in-depth visit to SkySong to review the site(s) and gain understanding about the community of innovators at SkySong, as well as the surrounding community of residences and businesses. The individual budget for each project is $190,000 to $200,000 and is inclusive of all costs associated with the project including artist's design, purchase of all materials, fabrication, installation, travel, and all taxes and insurance.
Selection criteria include the applicant's professional qualifications, proven ability to undertake projects of similar scope, artistic merit as evidenced by submitted materials, and demonstrated ability to work with government agencies and stakeholders in the creation of permanent public art. Applicants must submit 5 digital images. All artists residing in the United States and internationally are eligible to apply. The application deadline is February 5, 2016 at Midnight PST.
