Scottsdale Public Art - Scottsdale Airport Terminal Redevelopment

Scottsdale Public Art is accepting qualifications from artists for a public art opportunity at the Scottsdale Airport. The Scottsdale Airport will be redeveloping the main terminal building with opportunities for Terrazzo flooring and architectural art glass artistic enhancements. The selected artist will create a design for a Terrazzo floor and architectural art glass to be installed at specific locations of the new building. Artists who have experience creating and designing for Terrazzo flooring and/or architectural art glass are encouraged to apply.

The scope for this public art project focuses on contracting with an artist or artist team to design, work with a fabricator, and oversee installation of permanent artworks that can be integrated into the new office building at the Scottsdale Airport. The opportunities for integrating these artworks are in exterior areas that could include Terrazzo flooring and architectural art glass in and around an outdoor plaza area and glass elevator core near the main entryway to the new building. A successful design for this project should address and creatively reflect the entrepreneurial spirit of the Scottsdale Airport with respect to its history and its unique urban setting offering views of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve as inspiration. The total project budget is $175,000 and is inclusive of all costs associated with the project including the artist selection process, design costs, artist's fee, fabrication, installation, travel for site visits and community meetings, and all taxes and insurance.

An artist-selection panel will evaluate all submissions and select one artist and an alternate for the project. Selection criteria include the applicant's professional qualifications, proven ability to complete projects of a similar scope, artistic merit as evidenced by the submitted materials, and demonstrated ability to work with government agencies and stakeholders in the creation of a permanent public art project. Short-listed finalists will be invited for an in-depth site visit to Scottsdale Airport. The chosen artist(s) will be recommended by the selection panel for approval by the Scottsdale Public Art Advisory Board. Application deadline is August 25, 2016. All artists residing internationally are eligible to apply. Applicants must submit 5 images.
