About This Call
The City of Scottsdale seeks an artist to create artistic enhancements for the Marshall Way section between Indian School Road and the Main Street arts area. Marshall Way is known for its contemporary art galleries and progressive businesses. The project aims to establish a vibrant locale that attracts pedestrians and connects them with nearby arts-related areas.
The art should have both day and night presence and creatively reflect the character of Marshall Way. Enhancements could be sculptural, murals, light-based, projection, new media, creative signage, or other artistic forms. The project should include one larger artistic enhancement to act as a beacon drawing people to the area, as well as smaller components for wayfinding. An existing Marshall Way sign can be removed or replaced as part of the project. The budget will not exceed $140,000, including artist design development, fabrication, installation, travel, meetings, taxes, and insurance.
An artist-selection panel comprised of community stakeholders, City of Scottsdale staff, SPA Advisory Board members, technical experts, and artists with public art experience will evaluate submissions and select finalists. Finalists will be invited to visit the site, create a proposal, and present at an interview; finalists will be compensated for travel and proposal development time. Selection criteria include professional qualifications, proven ability to undertake similar projects, artistic merit, and demonstrated ability to work with government agencies. The chosen artist will be recommended by the selection panel and approved by the Scottsdale Public Art Advisory Board. All artists residing in the United States are eligible to apply. Submit 6 images. Contact Kevin Vaughan-Brubaker at [email protected] or 480-874-4667 with questions.
