Scottsdale Public Art - Belle Art Cycle III

The Scottsdale Public Art Program seeks artists or artist teams to create temporary public artworks for the Bell Tower at Scottsdale Civic Center Mall as part of the Belle Art series. Both 2-D and 3-D artworks will be considered, as well as combinations of the two. The ideal artwork is one which is an unexpected and delightful encounter for visitors to the site.

The exhibition space is a bell tower located at 7373 E. 2nd Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. The tower is two stories high and approximately 20'x20' in ground area. The art must allow the free flow of pedestrians. Up to 3 projects will be commissioned for 2013 and up to 3 for 2014, with a project budget of up to $7,000 per project. The selection panel will prioritize quality of encounter and engagement, and will look for one installation that dramatically pierces the space outside the tower from within and one that embraces the walls and columns with strong graphics. A lift and staff advice and assistance on installation are available resources for chosen commissions. All costs must be covered within the project budget; no additional funding is available for travel.

Application Deadline: Friday, November 9, 2012 (midnight MST). Applicants should submit 8 images of past work through the online application. Physical materials such as models or material samples must be postmarked no later than November 9, 2012 and sent to: Scottsdale Public Art: Belle Art Third Cycle, c/o Logan Bellew, 7380 East Second Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85251. A selection panel will convene in late November, with finalists interviewed by phone in early December. SPA Board approval is tentatively set for December 12, 2012.
