About This Call

Placer Community Foundation (PCF) manages the Susan Cooley Gilliom Artist in Residence & Teaching Program (SCG ART Program) in partnership with Blue Line Arts in Roseville, CA. The SCG ART program brings established artists to Placer County for the purpose of teaching and sharing their artistic talents and experience to the greater community. The program was established at PCF in memory of local artist Susan Cooley Gilliom by her family, who appreciated the perspective and expertise that workshops from established artists offered their own work.

The selected artist will be required to lead activities during the residency from September 5th-26th, 2026, including: an Artist Lecture Presentation (1 hour) on Saturday, September 19th, 2026 from 4:00PM-5:00PM during a 3rd Saturday Reception; Open Studio Hours up to two hours per day, twice per week during gallery hours (Tuesday-Saturday from 11-5pm); at least 1-2 school visits by local students on-site at Blue Line Arts; and up to 2 workshops for adults. Previous SCG ART recipients have taught 2 art workshops that are 2 or 3 days long for beginner, intermediate, advanced or all skill levels, covering topics such as professional development for artists and art techniques in various visual art mediums.

Open to all artists in the United States 18 years or older who have not been selected for an SCG Residency at Blue Line Arts before. All forms of visual art making and mediums will be considered. Applications must include a cover letter (1-2 pages), workshop proposals (2 pages), curriculum vitae (2 pages), artist's statement (1 page), work examples (5-10 high quality images), artist headshot (1-2 images), and artist at work photos (1-2 images). Budget: $10,000. Applications must be submitted by 5:00pm PST on Sunday, March 8th, 2026, with results sent by 5pm PST on Tuesday, March 31st, 2026.
