About This Call
50 TO WATCH is a regional exhibition and national publication of visual art highlighting San Diego's best visual artists. The exhibition runs from April 5 - May 19, 2015 at The Studio Door, The City of Solana Beach, and online.
Accepted categories include painting, drawing, photo, printmaking, assemblage, collage, mixed media, fiber art, artist book, ceramics, stained glass, and sculpture. The exhibition does not accept jewelry, video, film, performance art, installation, or works requiring an external electrical source. Submissions must be the artist's original work. Fifty artists will be selected for exhibition at participating galleries and online, and will be featured in a national publication mailed to 1,600 galleries during the exhibition and 400 additional galleries during 2015. Each featured artist receives a hard copy of the publication.
Eligibility is limited to artists residing in San Diego County. There is no entry fee. Artwork submissions should consist of 10-12 images. Two-dimensional work maximum size is 7 feet height by 4 feet width including frame. Three-dimensional work must fit a pedestal sized 16 inches x 16 inches or take up no more than 4 feet of gallery floor space. Framed artwork must use black wood or natural wood frame with no color mats and plexi only (no glass). Selected artists must pay a $350 production and distribution fee to be included in the publication, due by February 15, 2015. Additional publication opportunities are available: extra page $150, front cover $1,000, back cover $750. Artists will be notified by January 2, 2016. Artwork must be received by March 15, 2015. Sales commission is 60% to artists, 40% to The Studio Door. Preview reception is April 3, 2015 at 6-9 PM at The Studio Door. Opening reception is April 9, 2015 at 6-9 PM at City of Solana Beach City Hall Art Gallery. Both receptions are free to the public.
