About This Call
Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) in partnership with the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management and the Utah Arts & Museums' Public Art Program requests artist or artist team qualifications for the creation of site-specific artwork(s) for the Salt Lake Community College Juniper Building on the Herriman Campus.
The Juniper Building at the Herriman Campus is an innovative collaboration between Salt Lake Community College and the University of Utah opening Fall 2023 in Herriman, one of the fastest growing communities in the state. Located at South Sentinel Ridge Blvd and W Real Vista Drive, this 90,000-square-foot classroom-focused building will be the first of many facilities on the new campus. The Art Selection Committee is interested in working with artists that understand the pride of place and desire to serve the community. The committee seeks site-specific public art that communicates these qualities to students and the community, with interest in both place-making for the community and creating spaces that enhance the student experience. Artist-suggested sites are welcome and will be considered based on potential for public experience.
$165,000 is available for all related expenses including artist fees, fabrication, insurance, shipping, travel, installation, and documentation. This project is open to American legal residents and professional artists. Ineligible parties include Art Selection Committee members and immediate families, employees or consultants of AJC Architects, Utah Arts & Museums staff and board members, and contracted construction company employees. Application materials must include up to 10 images of previous site-specific public work with information on each image (title, medium, dimensions, site information), a letter of interest up to 3000 characters describing reasons for interest and how work/experience relates to the project, and a professional resume or CV. Deadline for submission is April 8, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT via CaFE.org. Finalists will be notified April 26, 2022, with finalist presentations and interviews scheduled for June 21, 2022. An honorarium will be offered to finalists to assist with proposal preparation and travel costs, which will be applied toward the final commission amount.
