About This Call
The Town of Parker seeks qualifications from artists or artist teams interested in creating site-specific public artwork for Salisbury Park North. The project is open to Colorado artists and artists/teams residing in Colorado's neighboring states of Kansas, New Mexico, Wyoming, Nebraska, Utah, or Arizona. The deadline for submission is October 21 at 5:00 pm MST. The total art budget is up to $150,000.
The Town of Parker seeks to commission an artist or team to create a site-specific work of public art located at the main entrance to Salisbury Park North in Parker, CO, with expected project execution in early 2026. Salisbury Park North is a 91-acre park designed as an active use park with tournaments, sports fields, and active play areas, developed in four phases through 2029. The overarching theme is the "Breath of Community," emphasizing the vital connection between community health, the natural environment, and the town's rich history. The art location is at the terminus of the main park entrance adjacent to the community gathering space called the Hub.
The selection committee has indicated interest in larger-scale sculpture(s) that will serve as an artistic marker or "gateway" to the park. Sculptural works should be scaled to be visible upon entering the park and help mark the entrance. The artwork should be family friendly and made of durable materials suitable for an area with significant pedestrian traffic and children/families. The artwork could be "playable" but this will not be a designated play area. It should be contextual to an active use/sports-oriented park but need not be literal in referencing sports or recreational activities. All artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, low-maintenance materials and will require a structural engineering stamp by an engineer licensed in Colorado. The area for the art is approximately 800 square feet; larger or smaller areas will be considered based on the proposed art.
The total project budget shall not exceed $150,000 and must be inclusive of all costs including artist design fee, structural engineering, electrical engineering (if needed), insurance, materials, fabrication, transportation, equipment rentals, installation, site modifications, travel, per diem expenses, project documentation, contingency, and any other project-related costs. Artists will be expected to procure and utilize their own equipment and provide and install all construction materials. The selected artist will be required to meet the Town's minimum insurance requirements plus other liability insurance for this scope of work.
Applications must include up to eight digital images of relevant previously completed artworks (preferably in the public realm and of similar scale), a current résumé outlining professional accomplishments (with an Executive Summary if longer than two pages; for teams, a résumé for each artist with the lead artist first), a statement of interest of 250 words or less outlining interest in this opportunity and experience with projects of this scope and complexity, and responses to the following questions: In what state do you reside? Have you completed at least one art project located within the public realm, and who commissioned it (Private, municipal or state agency)? The Art Selection Committee will review completed submittals. A short list of semi-finalists may be invited to prepare and present a design proposal. A finalist may be selected from the semi-finalists' proposals and recommended to the Public Art Commission for approval, with the finalist's proposal then presented to Town Council for final approval.
