About This Call
Members of the Surface Design Association (SDA) are invited to submit work for Safekeeping: Surface Design Association Juried Member Exhibition. The exhibition will be on view from June 2–July 23, 2023 at 108 Contemporary in Tulsa, OK. The juror is Anita Fields. All SDA members working in all media are encouraged to apply. Safekeeping will celebrate works that push the evolution of textiles through the use of color, design, processes, and meanings. Works chosen will demonstrate unique, well-developed artistic vision and innovation.
Eligibility: This exhibition is open to all SDA members. Up to two artworks may be submitted per artist. 2D or 3D works are eligible. Entries must be original work completed after January 1, 2021 and must be available for sale. Work executed under classroom or educational guidance or supervision is not eligible. Artists who have been included in prior SDA exhibits are encouraged to apply, but work should show a progression or be from a different body of work. Works previously exhibited with SDA will not be considered.
Entry Requirements: Up to 2 artworks total may be submitted. Four images total may be submitted per entrant (one overall and at least one detail of each full original artwork). Images must be JPEG format, no smaller than 1200 pixels on the shortest side, 72 ppi/dpi resolution, and 5 MB maximum file size. A brief artist statement (1,000 characters maximum) is required; do not include identifying information as this is a blind jurying process. A description field for each artwork submission should include additional information about the specific piece. Video work is not eligible. Wall-mounted hanging work should arrive ready to hang with all hanging rods and devices included. For ceiling-suspended 3D work, individual components must not weigh more than 25 lbs. Artists must provide all equipment if there is an electrical component to the work.
Entry Deadline: April 1, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry Fee: $40 for SDA Members, $20 for SDA Student-Members. Notification of acceptance: April 24, 2023. Selected artwork must arrive at 108 Contemporary between May 24–25, 2023. Awards: First Place $500, Second Place $300, Third Place $150, SDA Award of Excellence (One-year SDA Membership). Artwork exhibited must be listed for sale. A 40% gallery commission will be charged for sold work. 108 Contemporary provides full coverage of work while in the gallery's care and in transit. Artists are responsible for shipping costs both to and from the venue.
