About This Call
Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine is seeking artists to create opaque/translucent film appliques for the exterior window panels of renovated laboratories on the RBHS campus in Newark, New Jersey. The artwork will obscure public visibility into the laboratory while adding visual interest to the space.
The project involves two locations: Location 1-C Level (17'-8" long including door by 10'-0" high) and Location 1-D Level (15'-0" long by 6'-2" high). Artists should submit 4-6 images of their work. The artwork should relate thematically to oral biology, oral health, research, molecular and cellular sciences. Media must be two-dimensional opaque/translucent film type applique installed on the interior surface of windows. The material should require minimal maintenance and be appropriate for a public setting.
The commission budget is $2,500.00, covering all costs for design, fabrication, and installation. Shortlisted artists will prepare project-specific proposals and present to the arts inclusion committee. Special consideration will be given to City of Newark resident artists. The application deadline is August 8, 2019. Finalist presentations are scheduled between October 7-18, 2019, with the selected artist notified October 21, 2019. Project completion is anticipated for March 2, 2020. New Jersey resident artists are encouraged to apply.
