About This Call
Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine seeks to acquire one two-dimensional artwork for the C-Level Atrium of its renovated facility in Newark, New Jersey. The artwork will be installed on the East wall near the entrance corridor to the OHP C-Level, which measures 26 feet long by 8 feet high. Artists are encouraged to submit work that expresses the collaboration between oral health and overall health, with emphasis on thematic concepts of transformation, evolution, and metamorphosis.
The School of Dental Medicine will consider both completed artworks ready for purchase and commissioned pieces, provided commissioned work can be developed and installed within the stated budget and schedule. Artwork must be two-dimensional media (painting, photography, collage, etc.), gallery ready, and suitable for a public environment. The piece should be as large as possible to maximize visual impact and require minimal maintenance. Completed artworks should be framed and wired, behind glass or Plexiglas, and ready to install. Artists may submit 4-6 images of completed work.
The budget for the artwork is $3,500, covering all costs for design, fabrication, and installation. Shortlisted artists with completed work may be asked to bring pieces on-site for in-person viewing. For commissioned work, shortlisted artists will prepare project-specific proposals and present to the arts inclusion committee. Finalist presentations are scheduled between October 7-18, 2019. The selected artist will be notified October 21, 2019. Installation of completed artwork will occur within two weeks of notification; commissioned artwork completion is anticipated by March 2, 2020. Special consideration will be given to City of Newark resident artists. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts is assisting in this public art inclusion process. Project-specific questions should be directed in writing to Catherine Counts at [email protected].
