About This Call
Rustbelt: REDUX seeks to showcase works of art that capture the American experience of life during the decades following the decline of industry (mid 1970s) to beyond the turn of the millennium. The exhibition looks for work that is gritty, apocalyptic, street-oriented, deconstructive, political, and visionary.
Rustbelt states most often include New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, with Great Lakes Canada also included. Although regional in nature, the show is open to national artists who may have migrated away from the rustbelt. Artwork representative of the following themes is sought: heavy industry decline; the disappearance of main street and subsequent rise of hyper consumerism and gentrification; general life (artistic, social, work, family); caught between changes; and juxtapositions of old and new. Works are accepted from Emerging, Mid-Career, and Professional Artists.
Eligibility: Open to artists over age 18 in the United States and Canada. Work should ideally have been created in the last three years and must be original artwork ready to display. Work must not have been previously displayed in a Vestige Concept Gallery exhibit and must be for sale. No Giclees or reproductions of original works are accepted unless the work itself is a Giclee or digital. Entry fee is $27 for 2 entries, with $5 per additional entry (up to 9 total). Minimum 2 work samples required. Opening reception is Saturday, March 26, 2022 at 6 PM. Shipped work must arrive by March 23, 2022. Vestige Concept Gallery retains a 30% commission on sales. 2D work must not exceed 30 lbs including frame. 3D work and audio/video require gallery discussion before submission.
