About This Call

The Rubys Artist Project Grants were established in 2013 by the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance with lead funding from the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation to provide project-based funding for individual artists. The program supports the creation of innovative and bold projects that will have significant impact for the artist and on the artistic community. The program is open to both emerging and established artists committed to their art forms.

The 2015 current round awards grants in Performing Arts and Media Arts. Performing Arts includes dance, music, theater, musical theater, opera, puppetry, performance art, playwriting, spoken word, storytelling, traditional/folk art, and cross-disciplinary or experimental/emerging fields. Media Arts includes film, audio and video projects, animation, computer graphics, sound art, digital arts, screenplay, teleplay, and cross-disciplinary or experimental/emerging fields. Applicants may request up to a maximum of $10,000. Artists may submit only one application during each funding round.

To be eligible, an artist must be a resident of Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County, Carroll County, Harford County, or Howard County at the time of application and when the grant is awarded; a U.S. Citizen or permanent legal resident; at least 21 years old; and a practicing artist who has actively and continually pursued their profession in the discipline for more than three years. Organizations, full-time students, and current board members, committee members, staff, or consultants for the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance, the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation, or their immediate family members are not eligible. Selection criteria include artistic merit of the work sample, feasibility of the project based on budget and support from other sources, and artistic vision and potential impact for the artist and artistic community. Required application materials include a one-page project description, one-page project budget, one-page project timeline, three-page resume/CV, one-page work sample inventory, and up to 10 work samples (maximum 10 images, 3 audio files, and 3 video files). Entry fee is $25.00.
