About This Call

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned artwork for the FasTracks West Rail Line, currently under construction and scheduled to open in April 2013. The West Light Rail Line is a 12.1-mile light rail line located between the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver and the Jefferson County Government Center in Golden, serving Denver, Lakewood, the Federal Center, Golden and Jefferson County.

This open competition invites professional artists residing in the United States to submit proposals for four locations: Perry Station ($50,000 USD), Oak Station ($75,000 USD), Federal Center Station ($75,000 USD), and corridor-wide windscreens ($200,000 USD). Artists may apply for as many stations as desired. Teams of artists are welcome to apply. The budget for each commission is inclusive of all costs including design fees, consultation, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingency expenses.

Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artworks and a statement of interest (2000 character maximum) outlining their interest in the project and relevant experience. Artwork must be structurally sound, durable, low-maintenance, and able to withstand Colorado's weather conditions. Artwork cannot interfere with pedestrian movement, safety, security, or train operations. A two-phase selection process will identify finalists based on application materials, followed by site visits and interviews. Selection criteria include professional qualifications, proven ability to undertake similar projects, artistic merit, impact on transit customers, connection to site and community, appropriateness for site, durability, resistance to vandalism, and maintenance requirements. Application deadline: January 25, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Submit materials electronically via CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org. There is no application fee.
