About This Call
This is a public art opportunity for the Fitzsimons Station on RTD's I-225 Rail Line, located at Fitzsimons Parkway east of Peoria Street in Aurora, Colorado. The station provides access to the Anschutz/Fitzsimons Medical campus and Sand Creek Regional Park.
The preferred location for artwork is across a large landscaped area that is 10 feet wide by 400 feet long, where several artworks can be placed. Artwork must be site-specific and inclusive of the populations that use the station. All artwork will be outside and exposed to the elements, so it must withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must be durable, resistant to graffiti and vandalism, and require little or no maintenance. Artwork must not resemble official traffic or highway signs. Prior approval is required for use of electricity. Any artwork proposed for locations by the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations.
Finalists will be selected by the I-225 Rail Line Art Selection Committee based on their past work. Selected finalists will make a site visit, prepare a proposal, and be interviewed by the committee. Applicants must submit 8 images of past work, two professional references, and a CV/resume. Finalist artists will be notified May 26, 2015, with committee interviews on July 17, 2015, and final selection notification on July 20, 2015. Artwork installation is scheduled for late fall 2016.
