About This Call

Windscreens will be placed at eight stations along the I-225 Rail Line as a common element. The stations included in this commission are Peoria, Fitzsimons, Colfax, 13th Avenue, 2nd and Abilene, Aurora Metro Center, Florida, and Iliff. At the Peoria station, there will be both the I-225 light rail and the East Line commuter rail with separate platforms and windscreens. The design at the light rail station at Peoria should be mindful of the existing East Line commuter rail design, located 15 feet away.

The windscreens are intended to provide cohesiveness along the I-225 Rail line while providing an individual identity to each station. Windscreens are located on the platform waiting areas of each station. There are three styles of windscreens throughout the corridor at eight stations, totaling 24 pieces. The artwork must be able to withstand constantly changing weather conditions of Colorado, including wide fluctuations in temperature and intense sunlight. Materials must be durable, resistant to graffiti or vandalism, and require little or no maintenance. The movement, safety and security of pedestrians is a priority. Prior approval for use of electricity is needed. Artwork proposed for any location by the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations.

Finalists will be selected by the I-225 Rail Line Art Selection Committee, made up of artists, arts professionals, and community members, based on their past work. Selected finalists will make a site visit and prepare a proposal, then be interviewed by the committee. Applicants must submit 8 images of past work, two professional references, and a CV/Resume. Finalist artists will be notified May 26, 2015. Committee interviews and proposal reviews are scheduled for July 17, 2015, with the final artist notified of selection July 20, 2015. Artwork installation is scheduled for late fall 2016.
