About This Call
Aurora Metro Center Station is located at South Sable Boulevard and Centrepoint Drive in Aurora, Colorado. The station serves the Aurora Municipal Center and Town Center with shopping and restaurants. Aurora is Colorado's third largest city, known as the historic Gateway to the Rockies, and is home to Buckley Air Force Base, the Colorado Freedom Memorial, and the Anschutz Medical campus.
The preferred location for artwork is on two different walls at the station, featuring both 2D and 3D art that connects to the location and is inclusive of the populations using the station. The station serves a large shopping mall and busy RTD bus transfer. The strongest submittal will be a collaboration between a 2-dimensional muralist and a 3-dimensional sculptor.
Artwork must withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must be durable, resistant to graffiti and vandalism, and require little or no maintenance. Artwork proposed for locations by the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is needed for use of electricity. Artwork should not resemble official traffic or highway signs.
Finalists will be selected by the I-225 Rail Line Art Selection Committee based on past work. Selected finalists will make a site visit, prepare a proposal, and be interviewed by the committee. Applicants must submit 8 images of past work, two professional references, and a CV/Resume. Finalist artists will be notified May 26, 2015, with committee interviews on July 17, 2015, and final selection notification on July 20, 2015. Artwork installation is scheduled for late fall 2016.
