About This Call

The City of Arvada is seeking artwork for the Olde Town Arvada Station on the RTD Gold Rail Line, the fifth station heading northwest from Denver Union Station. The station is located west of Vance Street on the north side of the existing freight tracks, with a 20-minute travel time from Denver Union Station. Potential artwork locations would be on plazas in different areas around the station.

Artwork must be designed for outdoor installation and must withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must be durable and require little or no maintenance. The movement, safety, and security of pedestrians is a priority. Artwork proposed for locations by the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is required for any artwork using electricity.

Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with accompanying image annotation listing media, size, title, date, and brief description; a current resume; and two professional references. When applying, artists should review potential artwork locations and submit images that match the type of artwork appropriate for each location. The selection process has two phases: finalists will be selected by the Eagle Project Art Committee based on application materials, followed by site visits, proposal preparation, and committee interviews. Finalist artists will be notified February 9, 2015, with committee interviews scheduled for March 26-27, 2015. The final artist will be notified March 30, 2015, with artwork installation planned for Summer 2016.
