About This Call
This is a public art opportunity for the Federal Station on the RTD Gold Rail Line in Denver, Colorado. Federal is the third station heading northwest from Denver Union Station, located east of Federal Boulevard and north of existing freight tracks, with a 13-minute travel time from Denver Union Station. The station will have 300 parking spaces on opening day.
Artwork will be placed on the large wall facing the parking area. Applicants should review potential artwork locations and submit images that match the type of artwork appropriate for the site. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. Electricity use requires prior approval. Artwork proposed for locations near the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. The movement, safety, and security of pedestrians is a priority.
Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with accompanying annotations listing media, size, title, date, and brief description; a current resume; and two professional references. The selection process has two phases: the Eagle Project Art Committee (composed of artists, arts professionals, and community members) will select finalists based on application materials. Finalists will make a site visit, prepare proposals, and be interviewed by the committee. Finalist artists will be notified February 9, 2015, with committee interviews scheduled for March 26-27, 2015. The final artist will be notified March 30, 2015. Artwork installation is scheduled for summer 2016.
