About This Call
This is a public art opportunity for the RTD Gold Rail Line 60th/Sheridan Station in Denver, Colorado. Sheridan is the fourth station on the Gold Rail Line, located east of Sheridan Boulevard on the north side of existing freight tracks, with a 16-minute travel time from Denver Union Station. The station will have 300 parking spaces on opening day.
Potential artwork locations include plaza areas, the edge of a detention pond, or walls leading to the station. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. Artwork proposed for locations near the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is required for any use of electricity. The movement, safety, and security of pedestrians is a priority.
Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with accompanying image annotation listing media, size, title, date, and brief description; a current resume; and two professional references. The selection process has two phases: the Eagle Project Art Committee (composed of artists, arts professionals, and community members) will select finalists based on application materials. Finalists will make a site visit, prepare a proposal, and be interviewed by the committee. Finalist artists will be notified February 9, 2015, with committee interviews scheduled for March 26-27, 2015. The final artist will be notified March 30, 2015, with artwork installation planned for Summer 2016.
