About This Call
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is the transportation agency for an eight-county area serving a population of 2.8 million people. RTD is accepting commissioned art proposals for enhancements along the entire Gold Line commuter rail corridor, part of the FasTracks Eagle Project. The Gold Line is currently under construction and will open in 2016.
Enhancements will be placed at seven stations along the line: 41st/Fox, Pecos Junction, Clear Creek/Federal, 60th/Sheridan, Olde Town Arvada, Arvada Ridge, and Wheat Ridge/Ward Road. Potential locations for artistic enhancements include windscreens or ticket-vending machine (TVM) enclosures. There are approximately 14 glass, three-sided TVM enclosures available. The enhancements are intended to provide cohesiveness along the Gold Line while providing an individual identity to each station.
Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. Artwork proposed for locations by the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is needed for use of electricity.
The selection process has two phases. All artists can apply by November 7, 2014. Finalists will be selected by the Eagle Project Art Committee based on application materials, will make a site visit and prepare a proposal, and will be interviewed by the committee. Finalist artists will be notified November 24, 2014. Committee interviews and proposal reviews are scheduled for January 23, 2015, with the final artist notified January 26, 2015. Artwork installation is scheduled for Summer 2016.
Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with accompanying annotations listing media, size, title, date, and brief description; current resume; and two professional references. An optional description of initial ideas for the artwork is welcome. There is no charge to register and submit entries. All materials must be submitted in digital format via the Café website.
