About This Call
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned artwork for the 41st/Fox commuter rail station on the Gold Line, part of the FasTracks Eagle Project. The station is located at 41st Avenue and Fox Street, approximately 5 minutes north of Denver Union Station. It features a large parking area with 500 spaces, bus and passenger drop-off areas, and a pedestrian bridge connecting to Inca Street.
Potential artwork locations include the top of the pedestrian bridge, triangle landscape areas along the platform front, and plaza areas at the park-n-Ride entrance. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's weather conditions, including temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. Artwork proposed near the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is required for any use of electricity.
The selection process has two phases. All artists may apply by November 7, 2014. Finalists will be selected by the Eagle Project Art Committee based on application materials, will make a site visit and prepare proposals, and will be interviewed by the committee. Finalists will be notified November 24, 2014, with final selection announced January 26, 2015. Installation is scheduled for Summer 2016. Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with annotations listing media, size, title, date and brief description; current resume; two professional references; and optional description of initial artwork ideas. There is no application fee.
