About This Call
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned artwork for windscreen enhancements along the FasTracks Southeast (EFR) rail line extension project. The commission amount is $100,000. Windscreen enhancements will be placed at three stations—Sky Ridge Station, Lone Tree City Center Station, and RidgeGate Station—as a common element intended to provide cohesiveness along the line while providing individual identity to each station. The enhancements will be located on the station platforms.
Artwork must prioritize pedestrian movement, safety, and security. Since the artwork will be outside and exposed to Colorado's elements, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight, materials must be durable and require little or no maintenance. Artwork must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is required for use of electricity.
The selection process has three phases. Phase one: finalists will be selected by the Southeast rail extension project art committee based on application materials. Phase two: selected artists will make a site visit and prepare a proposal. Phase three: finalists will be interviewed by the committee on December 7, 2017. All applications must be submitted digitally via CAFÉ by October 6, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. There is no registration charge. Each application must include six digital images of relevant work with annotations listing media, size, title, date and brief description; current resume; and two professional references. An optional description of initial ideas for the artwork is welcome. Finalist artists will be notified October 20, 2017, and the final artist will be notified of selection December 11, 2017. Artwork installation is scheduled for Fall/Winter 2018. For questions or site plans and drawings, contact Christina Zazueta at [email protected].
