About This Call
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned artwork for the Sky Ridge Station on the FasTracks Southeast (EFR) rail line extension project. The commission amount is $100,000. Sky Ridge Station is the first station on the Southeast Rail extension project heading south from Lincoln Station toward Lone Tree. The extension adds 2.3 miles to the current Southeast Rail Line and includes three additional stations. The preferred location for artwork is in the center of the plaza.
Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. The artwork will be outside and exposed to the elements. Artwork must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is required for use of electricity.
The selection process has three phases. Phase one: finalists will be selected by the Southeast rail extension project art committee based on application materials. Phase two: selected artists will make a site visit and prepare a proposal. Phase three: finalists will be interviewed by the committee on December 7, 2017. Finalist artists will be notified on October 20, 2017, and the final artist will be notified on December 11, 2017. Artwork installation is scheduled for Fall/Winter 2018.
Applications must include six digital images of relevant work with accompanying annotations listing media, size, title, date, and brief description; current resume; two professional references; and an optional description of initial ideas for the artwork. There is no application fee. All materials must be submitted in digital format via the CAFÉ website. For questions or site plans and drawings, contact Christina Zazueta at [email protected].
