About This Call
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned artwork for the Peoria commuter rail station in Aurora, CO, the fourth station on the East Rail Line. The station is located at Peoria Street and Smith Road, serving as a transfer station with the I-225 Light Rail Line. Travel time is 17 minutes from Union Station and 18 minutes from Denver International Airport. The station will have 550 total parking spaces in a surface lot.
The preferred location for artwork is in the center of the bus loop, which has been wired with electricity. The commission amount is $134,500. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. Artwork proposed for any location by the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval for use of electricity is required.
The selection process has two phases. All artists can apply prior to the October 17, 2014 deadline. Finalists will be selected by the Eagle Project Art Selection Committee based on application materials. Selected finalists will make a site visit, prepare a proposal, and be interviewed by the committee. Final artist notification is scheduled for December 19, 2014, with artwork installation in Spring 2016. Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with accompanying annotation listing media, size, title, date and brief description; current resume; two professional references; and optional description of initial ideas for the artwork. There is no charge to register and submit entries. All materials must be submitted in digital format via the CAFÉ website.
