About This Call
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned art for enhancements along the entire East Rail Line, part of the FasTracks Eagle Project. The East Rail Line is currently under construction and will open in 2016. Enhancements will be placed at five stations along the line: 38th/Blake, 40th/Colorado, Central Park, Peoria, and 40th/Airport. Potential locations for artistic enhancements include windscreens or ticket-vending machine (TVM) enclosures. There are a total of 10 glass three-sided TVM enclosures. The enhancements are intended to provide cohesiveness along the East Rail line while providing an individual identity to each station.
Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. Artwork must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is required for use of electricity. The movement, safety, and security of pedestrians is a priority.
The selection process has two phases. All artists can apply by the November 7, 2014 deadline. Finalists will be selected by the Eagle Project Art Committee based on application materials. Finalists will make a site visit, prepare a proposal, and be interviewed by the committee. Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with accompanying annotations listing media, size, title, date, and brief description; current resume; two professional references; and optional description of initial ideas for the artwork. There is no charge to register and submit entries. Finalist artists will be notified November 24, 2014. Committee interviews and final selection will occur January 23-26, 2015. Artwork installation is scheduled for Summer 2016.
