RTD East Rail Line Central Park Station Public Art Commission

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned artwork for the Central Park commuter rail station on the East Rail Line, part of the FasTracks Eagle Project. The station is located at Central Park Boulevard and Smith Road, 13 minutes from Union Station and 22 minutes from Denver International Airport. The commission amount is $85,000.

Potential art locations include multiple plaza areas at the corners of the park-n-Ride or artwork mounted on the pillars that hold up the canopy at the station. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. Artwork proposed for locations by the tracks must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is required for use of electricity.

The selection process has two phases. All artists can apply by the October 17, 2014 deadline. Finalists will be selected by the Eagle Project Art Selection Committee based on application materials, will make a site visit and prepare a proposal, and will be interviewed by the committee. Finalists will be notified November 3, 2014, with final selection announced December 19, 2014. Artwork installation is scheduled for Spring 2016. Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with accompanying annotations listing media, size, title, date and brief description; current resume; two professional references; and optional description of initial ideas for the artwork. There is no charge to register and submit entries. All materials must be submitted in digital format via the CAFÉ website.
