About This Call
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned artwork for the 40th/Colorado commuter rail station on the East Rail Line. This station is the second stop heading east from Denver Union Station, located north of 42nd Avenue between Monroe and Jackson Streets, with a 9-minute travel time from Union Station and 26 minutes from Denver International Airport. The station will include 200 parking spaces in a surface lot.
Potential artwork locations include plaza areas at multiple locations throughout the station. The commission amount is $85,000. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight, with little or no maintenance required. Materials must be weather-resistant, and any artwork proposed near the tracks must comply with clearance and safety regulations for overhead electrical wires and train operations. Prior approval is required for use of electricity.
The selection process includes two phases. All artists may apply by the October 17, 2014 deadline. Finalists will be selected by the Eagle Project Art Selection Committee based on application materials, and will be invited to make a site visit and prepare a proposal. Selected finalists will be interviewed by the committee. Notification of finalists occurs November 3, 2014, with committee interviews scheduled for December 16-17, 2014, and final artist selection announced December 19, 2014. Installation is planned for Spring 2016. Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with media, size, title, date and brief description; current resume; and two professional references. An optional description of initial ideas for the artwork is welcome. There is no application fee. All materials must be submitted digitally via the CAFÉ website.
