About This Call
The Regional Transportation District (RTD) of Denver, Colorado is seeking commissioned artwork for the 40th Avenue & Airport Boulevard·Gateway Park commuter rail station in Aurora, CO on the East Rail Line. This station is the fifth stop heading east from Denver Union Station, located at Salida Street and 40th Avenue, with a travel time of 23 minutes from Union Station and 12 minutes from Denver International Airport. The station will have 1,079 total parking spaces in a surface lot.
The preferred artwork location is a large 15-foot-high wall spanning the front of the station, with a commission amount of $134,500. Artwork must be durable and able to withstand Colorado's constantly changing weather conditions, including wide temperature fluctuations and intense sunlight. Materials must require little or no maintenance. Artwork must not violate clearance and safety regulations concerning overhead electrical wires or impede train operations. Prior approval is required for use of electricity.
The selection process has two phases. All artists can apply by the October 17, 2014 deadline. Finalists will be selected by the Eagle Project Art Selection Committee based on application materials, will make a site visit and prepare a proposal, and will be interviewed by the committee. Finalists will be notified November 3, 2014, with final selection announced December 19, 2014. Artwork installation is scheduled for Spring 2016. Applications must include eight digital images of relevant work with media, size, title, date and brief description; current resume; and two professional references. An optional description of initial ideas for the artwork is welcome. There is no charge to register and submit entries.
