About This Call
The Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation and City of Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency are accepting qualifications from artists for a public art mural opportunity. The finished artwork should be incorporated into the building's exterior and physical site, creating an appealing menagerie of Florida Wildlife to raise awareness about Lakeland's connection to the Corridor and encourage preservation by educating visitors year-round.
Artists must demonstrate strong portfolios and a proven track record of large-scale public art projects with experience in Florida Flora and Fauna. The mural should include a menagerie of Florida Wildlife featuring both land and sea/lake species, such as Manatees, Florida Panthers, Alligators, Florida Black Bears, Sandhill Cranes, Swallow Tailed Kites, and/or Gopher Tortoises. The wall space is 14 feet tall by 80 feet wide, located at the RP Funding Center (701 Lime St, Lakeland, Florida), a multipurpose entertainment complex comprising a convention center, arena, and theater.
Applications must include a rendering, portfolio, CV, artist statement, letter of interest, references, and other relevant information establishing capabilities. Selection will be based on artistic merit in design and demonstrated ability to complete the project on time and within budget. Artists must demonstrate a history of translating artistic concepts into mural renderings appropriate for public space, considering maintenance, safety, and longevity. A Maintenance Plan will be developed during negotiations. The Artist Selection Panel, comprised of representatives from the Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation, City of Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency, and RP Funding, will review applications and recommend finalists. The Florida Wildlife Corridor Foundation will approve final artwork, and the City of Lakeland Community Redevelopment Agency will contract with the selected artist. Entry deadline: January 13, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Eligibility: Local artists in Florida. Budget: $18,000.
