About This Call
Rowan University is seeking to commission public artwork(s) for the Wilson Hall Dance Program Expansion, a 7,500 SF addition to Wilson Hall at Rowan University's Main Campus in Glassboro, New Jersey. The addition, currently under construction and expected to be completed in fall 2023, will feature two dance studios, a public lobby area, restrooms, offices, and dedicated spaces for dancers, faculty, and staff.
The proposed artwork should complement the addition's flex space, a room measuring approximately 14' x 33' with 27'-high ceilings and a glass curtain wall. The space flows seamlessly into the main lobby with centered doorway openings on its north and south walls, each leading to a dance studio. Artist finalists will be asked to propose an artwork installation that is suspended within the flex space, or attached to the walls and/or ceiling. The school envisions an artwork that takes advantage of the room's volume without occupying floor area. The work will be visible both within the room and from outside the building due to floor-to-ceiling windows on the west façade.
The proposed budget for this project is approximately $40,000, covering design and engineering services, materials, permitting, insurance, transportation, fabrication, installation, artist fees and travel. Shortlisted artists will receive a request for proposal (RFP) and a $1,000 stipend to offset proposal preparation costs. Applicants must be regionally based, residing no more than 150 miles from Rowan University, and over 18 years old. Students enrolled in undergraduate degree programs are not eligible. All respondents must be willing to contract with the University and complete state-required procurement processes. Priority consideration is given to individuals who self-identify as women and BIPOC artists. Submissions should include a brief bio/statement of interest, at least 3 references for similar projects, 4-8 images of past works with descriptions (location, materials, date of completion), and complete contact information. Optional video submissions are accepted (maximum 2 videos). All submissions must be made via CallForEntry.org.
