About This Call
The City of Grand Junction and the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture invite artists to create public art for a new traffic roundabout at the intersection of 24 ½ Road and F ½ Road. The artwork should be dynamic, distinctive, bold, and lively, able to be appreciated in a drive-by setting. Designs should be fresh, modern, abstract, and colorful, with vibrant and creative versions of landscapes such as trees and flora.
The design, construction, and materials must be very durable, require minimal maintenance, and be resistant to theft, vandalism, and weathering. The artwork should not create traffic hazards or obstruct sightlines, and must adhere to the highest standards of quality, timelessness, permanence, and general appeal. The project budget cannot exceed $100,000, which includes design, creation, and installation. The artist(s) is responsible for all costs associated with the proposal submission and, if selected, for all costs involved in design, fabrication, transportation, insurance, footings or foundation, delivery, and installation.
Eligibility is open to all artists age 21 and over. Preference points may be given to local Colorado artists. Artists must show images of original creations similar in size and theme to this project. Selection will be based on past artwork experience, style, concept, ability to comply with the timeline, and references. The sculpture must be an original creation by the artist(s). Application deadline is November 1, 2024. Artists will be notified on November 22, 2024, with artwork installation scheduled for August 2025.
