About This Call
The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs is seeking a Colorado artist or team of artists for a site-specific public art commission at the Roslyn Administration Building (5440 N. Roslyn, Bldg. #5, Denver, CO). The building is a three-story glass shared office facility for the Denver Sheriff's Department and Denver Fire Department, built in 1970 and refurbished in 2000. It is used for recruitment trainings and contains several classrooms.
The Project Selection Panel has identified three potential public art locations: the large Event Room (which holds up to 200 people and is used for graduation ceremonies, with two large walls available for 2D and photography artworks); the front entryway exterior for 3D or kinetic sculpture; and the building façade for 2D work. The artwork must be highly durable, extremely low-maintenance, and able to withstand Denver's severe weather conditions including hot summers and heavy snowfalls.
Applicants must submit eight digital images of previously completed artwork, a résumé (no longer than two pages), and a letter of interest (no more than 250 words). Artists submitting kinetic or sound works must also submit a DVD or VHS tape of no more than five minutes. There is no application fee. The total contract award is approximately $27,000, inclusive of all costs including design fee, consultation fees, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and contingency. Semi-finalists (up to three) will receive an honorarium of $500 to prepare and present a final proposal in person. The entry deadline is March 20, 2009. For more information, contact Mary Valdez at [email protected] or 720-865-4313.
