About This Call

The Museum of Northern California Art is seeking original artworks from artists within the Latinx, Chicano, Mexican, and Latin American communities using any media, except AI-generated artwork. Artists must reside in Northern California, defined as San Jose and all points north, east, and west to the state border. The exhibition will be held at the Museum of Northern California Art (monca), 900 Esplanade in Chico, from May 16 to July 7, 2024. This exhibition celebrates contemporary expressions of Northern California artists from diverse backgrounds within these communities.

Entry fee is $35 for up to 3 entries, with $10 for each additional entry. All fees are non-refundable. Accepted work must be delivered ready to hang or display. Work to hang on the wall must be fitted with framing wire and must be dry and clean. No sawtooth hangers are permitted. 3D work must fit on a pedestal (which monca can provide) or the artist may provide other means of display. Artist's name, phone, and title of work must be on the back of each artwork. Work samples should include a minimum of 3 and maximum of 10 images, with up to 6 videos permitted.

Deadline for entries and payment is Friday, April 5. Jury results will be notified on or before Friday, April 19. Artwork delivery is May 2-5 and May 9-12 during museum hours (Thursday-Sunday, 11am-5pm). The opening reception is Friday, May 17, 6-8pm, a free community event. Artwork pickup is July 7 at 5pm, or during museum hours July 11-14 and July 18-21. Works left beyond July 21 will be assessed a storage fee of $5 per piece per day (Thursday-Sunday). Works left beyond August 22 will become property of monca. Postage, packaging, and shipping insurance are the artist's responsibility. If work is shipped back, the artist must provide a pre-paid mailing label. The museum will not be responsible for loss or damage in shipment. If you wish to sell your exhibited work, provide a retail price reflecting a 50% museum commission. For eligibility questions, email [email protected].
