About This Call
Rocket Grants support innovative, experimental, artist-driven, and community-engaged projects in the Kansas City region. These grants are designed to fuel a dynamic regional art ecology by providing direct support for projects that happen in surprising places, are visually engaging, challenge mainstream methods of thinking or presenting, and encourage development of new audiences.
Artists, curators, collectives, collaboratives, partnerships, and artist-run spaces residing within an 80-mile radius of the Kansas City metropolitan area are eligible to apply. Rocket Grants are not available for non-profit 501c3 organizations or for current or recently graduated students. The 2014-15 program provides $54,000 in total grants, including full project awards of up to $6,000 each, research and development awards of $2,000 each, and completion grants of $4,000 for previously selected R&D award recipients. Supported projects may include visual art, performance, film screenings, video, new media, writing, programming, social practice, and interdisciplinary projects. All work should include a compelling visual component.
Applications open January 13, 2014 and close March 24, 2014 at 11:59 PM CST. Selected finalists must present their proposals at the Selection Panel meeting in Kansas City on May 9, 2014. Award recipients will be announced May 13, 2014, with funds released June 5, 2014. All projects must be completed by June 5, 2015. Work sample requirements: minimum 5 images, maximum 10 images; 0-3 audio files; 0-3 video files; total of 5-13 samples.
