RIWS National Watermedia Show 2023

The Rhode Island Watercolor Society presents the National Watermedia Show, offering over $2,500 in cash prizes. The show is open to all artists in the United States and accepts 1-3 watermedia entries only. The juror is Judy Metcalfe.

Eligibility requirements: Work must have been completed within the last 10 years and may not be copied from copyrighted material or partially/wholly painted by another artist. Work may have been done in a class or workshop using only reference material belonging to the sole artist. Previously exhibited work in RIWS shows is acceptable except for other Annual National Watermedia Shows. Work must not exceed 42 inches on its longest side (including frame). Artwork must be the same work represented by submitted digital images, with no altered digital images permitted. Work may be listed as NFS by entering 0 in the price section.

Acceptable mediums include watercolor, gouache, acrylic, water-based ink, casein, egg tempera, and other water-based mediums. Up to 20% of work may include line & wash, watercolor pencils, water-based collage, charcoal, graphite, wax accents and resists, water-based monotypes and mono prints, and embossing. Unacceptable media include pastels, colored pencil (except watercolor pencil), fabrics, digital media, oil paints, photography, and 3D media. Acceptable surfaces include watercolor paper, synthetic papers, canvas, illustration board, and wood. Work must be presented professionally in frames under glass/Plexiglas with wiring that does not show when hung.

Entry fee: $25 for non-members, $20 for members. Submit 1-3 digital images. Deadline for entry is April 14th. Drop off/delivery is April 21st-May 11th. Accepted entries will be notified April 21st. Exhibition dates are May 13th-June 23rd, with opening on May 13th at 1pm at RIWS Gallery. Pickup/shipping is June 24th-July 22nd. The show takes place physically in the gallery and online. RIWS will receive 35% of sales.
