About This Call
The Rhode Island Watercolor Society presents the 122nd National Watermedia Competition, open to all artists residing in the United States. Watermedia works only are accepted. Entry fee is $25.00 for the first entry and $20.00 for additional entries (RIWS members receive a 20% coupon code). Artists may submit up to 3 images of their work. Over $5,000 in prizes will be awarded, with first place receiving $1,500.
Eligibility requirements: Work must be watermedia only and completed within the last 10 years. Work must not have been exhibited in a previous Rhode Island Watercolor Society juried show, copied from copyrighted material, or partially or wholly painted by another artist. Work must not exceed 42 inches on its longest side (not including frame). Acceptable mediums include watercolor, gouache, acrylic, ink, casein, and egg tempera, with up to 20% of acceptable supplementary media such as line & wash, watercolor pencils, collage, charcoal, graphite, and water-based monotypes. Unacceptable media include pastels, colored pencil, fabrics, digital media, oil paints, photography, and reproductions.
The juror will select approximately 60-65 pieces for exhibition. Accepted artists will be notified by email and posted on the RIWS website on September 8, 2017. Awards will be judged in person on October 11, 2017. The exhibition runs October 14 - November 24, with an opening reception on Saturday, October 14, 4-6pm. Artists may drop off work September 8 - September 30, or ship work to arrive by September 30 (shipped artworks require a paid return label and $10 handling fee). All work sold during the exhibition is subject to an RIWS commission of 25% for members and 35% for non-members. Work must be presented in a professional manner and remain available for the entire exhibition duration.
