About This Call

The City of Englewood, Department of Parks and Recreation is accepting qualifications from artists or artist teams for a public art opportunity at RiverRun Trailhead, located at 2101 W. Oxford Avenue in Englewood, Colorado. The artwork will be placed on the grass knoll adjacent to the bridge on the northeast side of the South Platte River.

RiverRun Trailhead will feature a large covered pavilion, outdoor plaza, gathering spaces, picnic tables, seating areas, restroom, and landscaping. The new park will serve over 100,000 local residents and will be a key entry point to the Mary Carter Greenway Trail. The public art should engage the community as a gateway piece, complement the park renovations, and contribute to Englewood's public art collection. The artwork should appeal to all ages and complement the native environment adjacent to the South Platte River. Established pieces are preferred to commissioned works due to time constraints.

The estimated budget for artistic design, fabrication, and installation is not to exceed $40,000 USD. This project is open to all materials and media, but artwork must be fabricated of highly durable, easily repairable, and low-maintenance materials suitable for Colorado's extreme temperatures, UV exposure, and physical stresses. Artists must be at least 21 years old and reside in the western region of the United States, with Colorado resident artists preferred. Applicants must demonstrate a history of translating artistic concepts into materials appropriate for public space, with consideration for maintenance, safety, and longevity. Applications must be submitted by April 15, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Finalists will be notified April 29, 2016, with finalist presentations scheduled for June 4, 2016. Installation and dedication ceremony is tentatively scheduled for September/October 2016. Portfolio of up to 6 images of previous works is required.
