About This Call

Adams County Visual Arts Commission is seeking professional artist(s) to create original, project-specific, animal-related artwork for the new Riverdale Animal Shelter in Brighton, Colorado. The facility is a 45,000 square foot, state-of-the-art animal shelter opening in early 2019. The selected artist(s) will work with the ACVAC, Riverdale Animal Shelter staff, Facilities Department, and Design and Construction teams to incorporate public art in areas visible and accessible to the public that complement the bright, cheery, warm and welcoming ambiance the shelter seeks to create.

Proposed art concepts include wall sconces mounted on pilasters, bike racks, exterior and interior sculptures, play yard fences, two-dimensional and graphic art, projected art, and stamped or colored concrete. The project budget is $100,000 (all-inclusive), covering artist fees, consultants' and subcontractors' fees, insurance, engineering, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and post-installation documentation. Travel and per diem expenses will not be covered by the County.

Submissions must include a resume with professional references, a one-to-two page letter of interest, a preliminary concept statement with proposed sketches and budget/timeline, and five to fifteen images of previous public art projects. All submissions must be made through the CAFÉ online application system by November 30, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. MST. Finalists (approximately two to three) will be invited for in-person interviews and will receive a $1,500 honorarium. The County prefers local artists who can attend weekly/monthly design meetings at the Adams County Government Center, 4430 S. Adams County Parkway, Brighton, Colorado 80601, but will not exclude out-of-state or non-local artists.
